Changes We’ve Made (Detoxing Our Life)

In the past year we’ve made quite a few changes in our lifestyle as far as the products we choose to use in our home. It all started with my Young Living journey and learning a lot about toxins and chemicals in our everyday products from Becca Bristow. That was eye opening, mind blowing and obviously life changing.

  1. The very first thing we switched out was our deodorant. We ditched the toxin filled crap that we’d been putting near our lymph nodes for years and switched to Primally Pure. We love their charcoal deodorant. It doesn’t irritate our skin at all, and the activated coconut charcoal it uses contains added detoxifying benefits while also deodorizing and disinfecting.
  2. The next major thing we ditched was the soap we were using and switched it out for Young Living Shower Gel (we like Lavender and Morning Start). The amount of chemicals and fake fragrance (which is just awful chemicals) that we were putting on our body thinking we were cleaning ourselves is just ridiculous. Young Living’s all natural seed to seal promise has saved us in so many ways.
  3. Let’s talk hair care. So important. So fickle. So outwardly seen that you just have to make sure the products you use actually work the way you want them to. That was a tough one, but luckily Becca did the research ahead of time and I was able to give the safe company she found a try and goddess bless it works amazingly! Innersense Organic Beauty is my new go-to brand. And the best thing about it is that Amazon carries this brand! So easy and quick to get delivered. I used to have to rotate shampoos and conditioners because my hair is so thin and easily affected by only using one brand every wash but with Innersense I don’t ever have to switch brands. This one works great for my highlighted hair and doesn’t leave it greasy or weighed down. And the hair styling products are great too. Even my hubby is using Innersense and has no complaints!
  4. Cleaning products…oh man was this bad. I thought I was doing great using Mrs. Myers and the Target brands that advertise as safe and natural…to be blunt, that’s a bunch of BS. If you use the Think Dirty app you can see just how toxic these products really are. I now clean everything with Young Living’s Thieves Cleaner. It works like a charm, has been shown in studies to kill germs better than bleach, and is perfectly safe for adults, kids and animals.
  5. Moving on to laundry – a way bigger deal than I realized. We recently switched this over. You guys – your skin is your largest organ. Now keep that in mind as you think about how all of the chemicals in the detergent, whitening concoctions and dryer sheets stay on your clothes, sheets and towels and then are transferred to your skin and into your body as you wear, lay in and use them all day and night each and every day. That hit home with me and I’ve switched to using only Young Living’s Laundry Soap and reusable dryer balls with Young Living essential oils on them for a natural fresh scent.
Cooper loves to grab the dryer balls when they fall out of the dryer as I take out a load.
  6. Face wash & skin care. This is a very important one as well, as it deals with your skin, but also your face, the place that we use all of these toxin filled washes, wipes, masks and breakout products on. But guess what? There’s no need for that! I recently tried out the recipe for a DIY face wash that Cody and I both use every single morning and let me tell you, it works like a charm, is gentle on your skin and once I removed all of the other face washes from the mix a lot of the redness that I have always had began to clear up. Switching to this face wash along with using the DYI skin oil has been a total game changer. Here is how my typical skin routine goes:
    • Every morning I wash my face in the shower with the DIY face wash.
    • Then before I apply my makeup, I apply about half of a dropper worth of the DIY skin oil.
    • When it comes time to remove makeup, I use Young Living’s Mirah Luminous Cleansing Oil to break up all of the makeup on my face so I’m not having to rub so hard to scrape it all off and eliminate pulling on my face/skin. Then I go in with a Young Living Seedlings Baby Wipe (yes, you heard me right, a baby wipe) and wipe off all of the makeup and oil. My face has never felt softer. (Thank you Becca for the hot tip!)
    • Later in the evening before I head to bed, I try to remember to do one final sweep & tone. I use Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for All Skin Types (the pink capped one) on a cotton pad and remove any leftover residue from my face. Now, this product isn’t 100% the best, but it’s better than most and helps with my skin’s hydration. It’s rated a 4 on the Think Dirty app, so I’m debating switching this out in the future. I’ll keep you posted.
    • Then the final step of the night is to spray my face with Heritage Store Rose Petals Rosewater. (I also use this to set my makeup in the morning.)
    • If I have a breakout, I’ll dab a little bit of Young Living tee tree oil on the spot for a few days and watch it dry up and disappear naturally.
  7. Dish washing is another one that I began to switch over and am finally ready to switch over completely. We’ve been using the Young Living Thieves Dish Soap for quite some time now, but now I’m thinking deeper – like what we use in our dishwasher that is all over the dishes we eat off of….gross. So, we will be making the switch to Young Living’s Thieves Automatic Dishwasher Powder as well.

Young Living and all they have to offer has opened my eyes and changed my life. My home and family are now healthier and happier without all the toxins that every day brands bring to the table. We are taking our health into our own hands by using Young Living essential oils as well as their products and that feels smart and empowering.

If you’re interested in signing up for Young Living, know that there is no requirement for you to continue to purchase from them (unless you choose to opt into Essential Rewards), there are no minimums, there are no schemes. I’d be happy to get you set up with a starter kit so you can get a diffuser and test out the most popular oils. I’m also happy to answer any questions that you might have.
